“What you build today, builds tomorrow”
Who knew that my aspiration to become a woman in tech started with a broken Nintendo DS?
Dropping the dual-screen gaming console on the floor a few times due to the frustration of not being able to save Princess Peach, piqued my curiosity as to how this piece of plastic works. I understood that the only way to have my questions answered was to get involved in the vast world of computer science.
I was part of the Girls Who Code at Columbia University during my senior year in high school. It was a valuable learning experience. In the last class, I was paired up with a girl named, Shadi. Our goal was to use everything that we had learned to create a game of hangman. For 20 minutes, we tried to debug our code. After running the program and having it worked properly, the smiles, the high-fives, and the giggles we shared was a moment I would never forget. The bonds that I created and the insights I gleaned from the other curious girls just like me brought me confirmation that this is what I wanted to do with my life. I want to empower women in technology just like how Girls Who Code inspired me. My background, coding experience and a broken Nintendo DS brought me to a decision that this is what I aspire to do in the future.
About Me
Hi there, I'm Stella! I'm a Pace University graduate with a Computer Science major and a Graphic Design minor, bringing a unique blend of tech and creativity to the table. With a year of experience in Software Engineering, my recent role at Capgemini involved contributing to projects using Guidewire InsuranceSuite, a software platform for Property and Casualty insurance. I've also delved into the creative side as a graphic design intern for NYC DYCD, where I designed graphics to support youth-focused initiatives.
From an early age, I harbored a deep fascination for technology. The Nintendo DS console ignited my curiosity in software, hard components, and the realm of digital art. My involvement with GirlsWhoCode solidified my passion for tech through friendships and exciting projects. Empowering women in technology remains a core goal, as seen through my leadership roles with Pace Women in Technology. Much like the inspiration I found in GirlsWhoCode, I aspire to contribute to community-building efforts within the tech industry and play a role in empowering other women in tech.
I thrive on learning and continuous self-improvement, always seeking opportunities to enhance my skills. Currently, I'm actively seeking job opportunities where I can apply my skills to develop technological innovations. In parallel, I'm working towards certifications in Amazon Web Services Solutions Architect and DevOps engineering.
The tech industry's boundless possibilities inspire me, and I take pride in being a woman in tech. I look forward to continuing my journey, connecting with amazing people, learning endlessly, gleaning insights along the way, and evolving throughout my career.
